IT that just works — without the hassle

It is accepted that every business is different, everyone has their own uniqueness which they bring to their particular market. When it comes to IT, most of the foundations are similar,  you are either servicing things,  making something and selling it, reselling or taking commission on something someone else has created, or a mix of all of these.  In all cases the underlying IT principles are similar. Communication, record information, and use it to run and enhance the business.

With this in mind there are two drivers for your IT, what you need and what what you want. The first one is fairly straight forward, but what you want, can be a little contentious, as there are a lot of buzz words flying around which promise you will become a multi-national conglomerate if you buy it, in reality it is very unlikely. Hardware and software does not make a business, you do!  This sounds a bit strange coming from someone who is trying to sell IT services to you, however I believe in the right tool for the right job, and keeping my customers for the long haul.

That said, if you think that AI or some other buzzword will save the day, let us have a conversation and explore the need and desired outcome and see if it will benefit you. We use AI a lot on the technical side of the business, and it has saved a lot of time. Its also good for some data analysis.  Would I expand it's use further? ..... maybe, but I cant see the cost vs reward right now.

“I don’t want to think about IT, and I don’t want it to break.”

More specifically:

  • Staff can work without disruption
  • Email, files, applications and phones just work
  • Someone answers the phone when something goes wrong
  • Problems are fixed quickly, not just “logged”
  • You don’t get ransomware’d
  • You are not embarrassed in front of customers

You don't want technology — you need:

  • Reliability
  • Responsibility
  • Reassurance

The basics

When we are talking to local businesses, we get asked for

  • “General IT support”
  • “Looking after our systems”
  • “Being our IT guy/company”

What we provide at grass roots level:

  • User issues (passwords, laptops, printers, Wi Fi)
  • New starter / leaver setup
  • Email problems (Outlook, Microsoft 365)
  • File access and sharing
  • Phones / Teams / Zoom issues

Microsoft 365 setup & management

Almost every business under 100 staff:

  • Uses Microsoft 365
  • Uses it badly
  • Has no governance, security, or structure

What you need is:

  • Email that works
  • Shared files that aren’t a mess
  • Simple permissions
  • “Something better than Dropbox”

Unless you actually need it (maybe for regulated compliance) we wont baffle you with:

  • Entra ID
  • Conditional Access
  • Purview

What you will get:

  • “Secure email”
  • “Files backed up”
  • “People only see what they should”

Backup & “what if everything blows up”

Most SMEs only realise this matters after a scare.

We can countermeasure a disaster by implementing:

  • Laptop backup
  • SharePoint / OneDrive backup
  • Email backup

An answer to “If we get hit by ransomware, what happens?”

This is dependent on your application landscape, lets do an audit of what you use and the risk/impact of an attack. There are many defences and solutions, picking the right one is important.

Security (but framed properly)

Most SMEs know about the need for cyber security and have something in place. The real questions that need answers are:

  • “Will this shut us down?”
  • “Will we lose customers?”
  • “Will this cost us weeks?”

We can implement security to satisfy the need of “This stops you being wiped out.”

Commonly these include:

  • MFA (Multi-factor authentication)
  • Email protection
  • Endpoint protection
  • Patch management

Someone senior to just talk to

As all business owners know its lonely at the top, when looking for improvements or upgrades everyone you talk to seems to have an agenda to get you buy something, even if its not a good fit. So lets have a coffee and talk about:

  • “Is this a good idea?”
  • “Should we move systems?”
  • “Do we really need this software?”
  • “Our accountant says X — is that right?”

I cannot guarantee you will always like the answers, but it will be my best opinion. Some people get blinded by a new shiny spanner, the fact is their old one works well and the new one is made of tin foil, I wont validate your desire to replace the old one. However if you are thinking of replacing the old one with a pneumatic one, that might be worth while.

Summing up!

As an SME you really don't need all the heavy weight processes employed by the companies with 1000s of people. You do need the right level of control over your IT.

We will not provide

❌ Full ITIL / enterprise processes

❌ Complicated monitoring dashboards

❌ Endless reports no one reads

❌ AI tooling “innovation” chat

❌ Over‑engineered infrastructure

You will get services that are

  • Simple
  • Predictable
  • Human
